The story is set in London at the beginning of the war. Treasures from the natural history museum are being evacuated to locations outside of London to preserve them until after the war. The protagonist, Miss Cartwright, has been appointed to be the director of this offsite museum to be housed at Lockwood Manor.

The story so far has everything I like in a book - it's historical fiction, has a protagonist with a less than perfect childhood, she's a woman in a man's world, and I believe that the owner of the mansion, newly widowed, could be her new love interest.

I also liked that on the first page, I had to look up a couple of words, rictus and melanistic - so it's also keeping me challenged! Her descriptions were wonderfully written which makes the reader feel like they are in the room with them - "The foxes went first, in their cabinet with dust underneath so thick, it was
almost fur."

I really look forward to getting my hands on a copy of this book to see how Miss Cartwright's future will unfold.
