Wow! The opening of this novel reads like a Bronte novel only this novel takes place during WWII. Hetty Cartwright has had a series of misfortunes in her life. Her adoptive mother has all but disowned her. She has worked in the natural history museum where men rule. With the advent of WWII and men going off to war, Hetty gets a promotion and is accompanying a section of exhibits from the museum to keep them safe from the bombings in London. The owner of the manor is a widower, Major Lockwood. Looks like a good Gothic tale to me. Can’t wait to read this one!
