This is my third Alex North book. I will read anything he writes - his books are fast-paced, well-plotted and full of twisty suspense.
I love the elements of the supernatural North always includes - someone in the story always believes in a supernatural element or villain, and though there's often an explanation that could put those fears to rest, there is usually some detail that leaves the reader questioning the truth...
Katie Shaw is making it in midlife, married to her high school sweetheart, with a beautiful daughter. But underneath it all lurks a complicated and ugly past. Maybe even more complicated than she knows.
Christopher Shaw is the opposite of his successful sister. Since an attempt on his life when they were children, Christopher just seems to keep unraveling. He's been in and out of Katie's life, mostly out, and every time he's back he seems to just pull everyone into the whirlpool that's become his life.
As if it were not enough that Christopher has resurfaced again, there are ties to a local murder that hint at darker things to come. As always, Katie is stuck trying to hold it together for everyone walking a dangerous tightrope between pulling Christopher back from the brink and keeping her own family from falling over the edge.
Throw in a serial killer who believes he can know the future, and Alex North will have you flipping pages to find out how it all ties together. I couldn't put it down.
