This was a very interesting book. The themes, the "mystery," and the characters all added up to create a fascinating novel that really made me think (and even exclaim outlaid a few times!).
We meet several different characters in this book as we discover that an elderly philosophy professor has been discovered murders in his dilapidated old home. In the subsequent chapters it isn't quite obvious how all the characters and their situations are connected (and this is where the story feels very slow, a bit disjointed, and a bit confusing and hard to follow). I did consider not finishing the book, but I decided to keep pulling along, and I am very glad that I did.I really began to root for Katie Shaw, the mother and sister who believes her brother and her daughter are in danger, possible from the same man who destroyed their family in the past, or possible from an even greater and more evil enemy. At about 60% through I found I could not put the book down because seeing how all the threads wove together in ways I couldn't have predicted was extremely fascinating. Plus, I really wanted to see what would happened next to all the characters.
If you enjoy cerebral mysteries that really make you think, with perhaps a touch of creepy, maybe even eldritch horror thrown in, then definitely give this book a chance. If you keep going through the first part, during which the cosmic connections are being laid, you will discover a compelling story. I will admit that there are a couple of possible plot holes, and definitely some unanswered questions that I was left with when I read the last page, but I really did enjoy this book.
