Suspenseful, creepy, and wonderfully intricate! This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire read! And, crazily enough, one of the best parts of this story was what wasn't included! The story focuses on the generational aftermath of a serial killer and the attack on a young boy. As the plots wind their way through the book, Detective Page is trying to figure out how a man knew he was going to be killed at a specific time. At the same time, his main suspect's sister is facing her own scary crisis. Are they related? If so, how? I loved unraveling the mysteries! Like I previously mentioned, I also really liked what was excluded from the story. While the original seed for the events in the book all came from a serial killer, we don't really get a good look at what he actually did. Like, no gory scenes where he kills his victims. Sure there are peeks and references, but he isn't the main focus of the book. I liked that unique take on the story. Instead, the book included an ongoing discussion of predetermination, where it is thought that all we do is already decided and there is no free will. It is an interesting concept and added another layer on thought to the actions taken throughout the book. Can you condemn a person for committing a crime if they had no free will regarding that action? This book will both entertain you, hold your attention, and make you think all at the same time! Once again, Mr. North delivers a must read!
