The Angel Maker is another good entry from Alex North. It especially focuses on the lives of two siblings, Katie and Chris, and the aftermath of a traumatic attack when they were teenagers. A random attack on Chris has left Katie racked with guilt, and Chris has lost his way over the years. I especially appreciated the focus on the family dynamics. I also appreciated how Chris dealt with the challenges of his past, both giving him hope and understanding potential consequences of his actions. Eventually, however, both of the siblings get involved in trying to solve the murder of a mysterious millionaire. This eventually connects them to Detective Laurence Page as well. I liked Laurence as a detective, but I did not feel like there was much to distinguish him from other detectives in thrillers.

I thought the book was too slow at first and seemingly too random. However, North makes up for it as the book goes along. I also thought that the ending was too abrupt - I understand the intentionality by the ending, but it is not my favorite way to end the book. Still, this was a very easy read that I enjoyed working through over a few days.
