Having loved Alex North’s debut novel, The Whisper Man, I was a little disappointed with his second book, The Shadows. I really hoped that his third book, The Angel Maker, would give me the same thrill ride as his first book. I thought the book was off to a good start. I felt invested in Katie Shaw’s and her younger brother, Chris’s story. The guilt Katie must have felt when she went with her boyfriend, Sam, instead of walking home with her brother was real. To see all of the police cars at her home was an immediate hook to keep me reading. Then, the reader meets Alan Hobbes and his story along with two detectives. This is where it became complicated for me. I found myself having to start over and felt Ineeded to take notes to keep all of the plot lines straight and who each character was. It became homework rather than a fast-paced thriller for me. My thanks to Bookish First and Celadon for an ARC of this book. The opinions in this review are my own.
