How wonderful that with its opening sentence this selection from "It Takes One To Know One" by Susan Issac's references Daphne du Maurier's classic "Rebecca". Instead of the mood-setting "I dreamt I went to Manderley again" Issac begins with "Last night I dreamt I went to Queens Boulevard again." After this brief homage we're back in the unique, dark but cleverly amusing style of Susan Issacs.
In a few paragraphs, I learned about the similarities of Issac's heroine Corie and the never named second Mrs de Winter. Corie is a second wife but unlike Mrs de Winter Corie is an educated, confident FBI agent. That made me wonder how the fact that both Mrs. de Winter and Corie have their husbands deceased first wives still floating around in the backroom come out to play in "It Takes One To Know One."
Given my quite enjoyable previous experiences with reading Susan Issacs, I look forward to reading the rest of her latest novel!
