Sync by Ellen Hopkins is a poetic story following twin siblings, Lake and Storm, as they are separated by the foster system. It is a heartbreaking and beautiful recollection of loss, anger, and hope. I was not expecting much from this book, as I really didn’t know what it was going to be about. The writing was emotional and I really found myself caring about the characters.

Lake is a teenage girl who is living in a foster home with her secret girlfriend, Parker. The foster parents are ultra-religious and they are hiding secrets from them. Storm is her twin, who is living with a foster father named Jim. Both of them miss each other and are always thinking of each other, but they end up getting into trouble. The story follows both of them as they struggle through their perspective problems and find both good and bad people along the way.

The characterization of these characters is amazing and I really felt for both of them. The book pulled at my heartstrings and the poetic writing style worked really well. I was absorbed into the story and really enjoyed it.

Overall I gave this book 4.25/5 stars. It was emotional and the characters were written very well. There were a few moments where I felt like I was physically hit in the chest because it hurt so bad, but it was also gorgeous. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
