Anything Ellen Hopkins writes is bound to be beautiful and heart wrenching. Sync was both.
A story about twin siblings who are part of the foster system and get separated at a time in their lives where they need each other the most. Reading their stories about the abuse they experienced as children and then their stories about their different foster families was powerful. To read about abuse and then to read about the struggles both Lake and Storm faced in the foster system was hard. To read about the lives Lake and Storm lived once separated was even harder, but traveling on the journey of self-discovery and self-worth with both Lake and Storm was emotional and beautiful. To read about how Storm finds his purpose despite his actions and loss was emotional to say the least. To experience Lake’s traumas of acceptance, homelessness, loss, and then growth and strength as her story unraveled was powerful, tragic, and beautiful.
I would recommend Sync to anyone interested.
