Having read books by Ellen Hopkins before, I had high expectations for the writing and anticipated a powerful story. However, reading it proved to be emotionally difficult. Lake and Storm immediately felt like genuine individuals, and their past and present experiences in foster care deeply moved me. Despite being a work of fiction, it painfully reflects the harsh realities that countless children endure.
