While magical realism and fantasy are not my favorite genres, this is an author my students have always gravitated toward. My thought from reading the First Look is that this is probably one of those books that the reader has to hang on to for a bit to get the gist of. In the beginning, it sure feels nonsensical, but I think that's probably part of the point of it. I do love the short choppy chapter sections and think that adds a lot to it. Interesting, for sure!
