Great concept, little shaky on the execution

First off, this book is written in a way that refuses to explain the general concept or idea at all. We are told several times that time has stopped due to a fold in space and time, and yet people still age, babies are still born, day and night still happen, meaning the earth must still rotate on it's axis, otherwise there would be no living creatures narrating this tale. So how did time stop? Brace yourself...all clocks, watches, etc, have stopped working, so no one knows what time it is, and they are forced to follow the same calendar they have always followed, even though time has stopped. But wait! It get's more interesting to know that seasons still happen too, as the narrator describes March as "cold." The school has begun assigning local high school students the task of figuring out how to "fix" the time problem. I can do that in three words....get a sundial.

I really liked the description of this book, so I'm very sad to say that the first look just doesn't do it for me. If the author had gone another way, like say explaining how time has stopped and giving us more definitive proof other than being unable to buy a working watch on Amazon, then I might have been much more interested.
