A curious glimpse that left me wanting to read more. I very much appreciated the author's sense of humor and creative descriptions (playing the Spice Girls was like hitting the boys with a water cannon, the protagonist's chest as pink as canned salmon, kneading flesh like pizza dough, etc.). The language simultaneously builds vivid scenes and unusual characters while being laugh-out-loud funny.

The cover did confuse me; the font and illustration style seems reminiscent of the 1960s or 70s, so I was surprised to discover that the 16-year-old protagonist was from 1997. Being an American reader where a 'disco' is definitely associated with the 70s added to the initial timeline confusion during the school dance scene.
