A cataclysmic space event leads to the death of everyone over the age of thirteen? Giving parents just enough time to pass on limited knowledge? It's definitely a premise that pulls you in. The writing can seem a bit clunky at times, but I suspect that it just the translation. I kept confusing the character names - but that one is entirely my fault. Although I enjoyed it, it wasn't what I expected.
I was expecting it to be a bit more sci-fi ish. They cover the science of the supernova cataclysmic event that sets everything off in the first few chapters, but then really veer away from the science of it to address the political, psychological, and moral implications. It's like a less optimistic Ender's Game.
