Very Impersonal But Fascinating too!

I love the premise of this and the initial faux war games was quite fun. But it was also rather dry, impersonal (we learn little of the kids and don’t see them interact much) and was ALL telling. Too much telling, even the big battle at the end of these games was quickly summarized. It didn’t feel like a victory at all because I didn’t feel the involvement of the kids.

I realized the book would probably continue in this vein. And would in the end disappoint me because I didn’t have real characters to follow. The premise’s execution isn’t enough. I want to feel what the kids went through.

The hard science was really well done. That was what I was most worried about with this author but actually there was just enough to make this overdone premise feel like it could really happen. If you enjoy political maneuvering then you’ll enjoy this a ton.
