David Yoon has done it again. He’s written a smart, funny, coming of age novel. The wit and cynicism of the main character are what truly make this book humorous.

Self-proclaimed super mega-nerd Sunny Dae meets one Cirrus Soh, the new and seemingly effortlessly cool girl who just arrived from London. When she mistakes his older brother’s bedroom, covered with posters and old music gear, for Sunny’s, he sort of, kind of, accidentally tells her he’s the front man of a rock band. A fake rock band.

As Sunny lies more and more about his band and ropes his two best friends, Milo and Jamal, into helping him keep up the charade, Sunny realizes he might like Fake Sunny more than Real Sunny. But can he reveal the truth, become his true self, and still keep the girl of his dreams?

Like any good coming of age novel, there’s truth, discovery, love, and realizing who you truly are does not need to conform to what you believe others expect you to be.
