Slow start but some great writing!
After reading Frankly in Love by David Yoon, I was excited to read Super Fake Love Story. Overall, this story was probably a 3.5 for me - mostly because the story seemed to languish through the first half even though the action was (slowly) building. The ending was much faster paced and engaging such that I ended up flying through the last few chapters.
Sunny Dae is a likeable, quirky, self-professed nerd who steps into his older brother's rocker persona to impress the new girl. While the story is mostly predictable, Sunny has a way with words (cynical and profound, youthfully idealistic but also thoughtfully mature) that I really appreciated. I also enjoyed the friend-group banter and interactions as well as Sunny's evolving and changed relationship with his bully. So I'm glad I read to the end and I'm still excited to read more from David Yoon though I'd definitely point readers towards Frankly in Love over Super Fake Love Story.
