Super Fake Love Song is a fun YA read with a diverse cast of characters, grounded and real family dynamics, and a bit nerdy without feeling forced or on the nose. Sunny Dae demonstrated genuine teenager growth as he learned more about himself, his identity, and his hobbies. It maintained a good balance between a nerdy teen's contemporary interests (like DIY figurines and a YouTube channel), but not making that the total sum of Sunny's character.
I took off a star due the character's voice as he comes off as a much younger YA character than seventeen. Perhaps the first chapter where Sunny is thirteen affected my expectations, or the narrative style that in places did not flow smoothly with the first-person POV.
Overall, I think this was a great, fun YA book, and I would read more from this author in the future!
