I was a fan of his debut novel, Frankly in Love, and was ecstatic when I heard that he had written another book. Yoon returns with the same wit, charm, and romance that he brought with his debut. This one has a lighter tone overall, but still touches on the idea of acceptance and a sense of belonging.

I love Yoon's novels because he always features a Korean-American MC that struggles to understand his place in the world - Is he a nerd? Could he ever be THE love interest?

When Sunny Dae meets Cirrus Soh, his whole world turns upside down. Cirrus appears to be effortlessly cool, and naturally, Sunny decides that the only way to impress her is to pretend he's the main frontman in a rock band. In reality, Sunny and his friends enjoy making DIY role-play props and LARPing. Sunny believes that if the "real" version of him comes out, Cirrus will lose interest.

I was actually way more invested in the relationship between Sunny and his brother, Gray, than I was between Sunny and Cirrus. I rarely read novels that focus on the relationship between two brothers, so it was such a treat to see the ebbs and flows of that relationship. Similarly to Frankly in Love, Sunny struggles to understand his parents and believes they work too much and constantly trying to keep up with the Joneses.

The cast of characters in this one, particularly Sunny's friends, Milo and Jamal, added such a quirky and lovable flair to this story, that it had me laughing throughout this one.

Thank you to Penguin Teen for an ARC of this one. All opinions are my own.
