The writing style is not for me, like I was instantly put off from the main character because of how he talks in the prequel chapter.
This is definitely a personal thing, but I always roll my eyes at high school books with defined "jock" and "nerd" social circles because that just didn't happen at my school. Even if I did have that, I think I'd be equally as annoyed at descriptions like "mouth-breathing football cheerleaders" and "donkey-brained football players."
