I'm so glad this book is going to be a series! To be honest I don't know anything about the original myth this is based on but I don't think it's required background knowledge to enjoy this story. This story was full of crazy plot twists, backstabbing, an amazing narrator, complex characters both main and side characters, and some of the most complex relationships I can remember reading in a long time! I think the thing that stood out the most to me about the story was Joan He's amazing grasp on the plot twist. None of them felt unnecessary or particularly overdone they felt real. I had to pick my job off the ground several times in this book. I haven't read such a compelling or beautiful book in a very long time and I am impressed! I haven't read anything by this author before, but I will check out their backlist while waiting for the sequel to arrive!
