“But as long as I breathe, I will scheme.”

Books with heists and/or strategists are some of my favorites, because I find the thought processes and the planning for every eventuality so interesting! Strike the Zither is told from the perspective of Qilin, the strategist of a Xin Dynasty era warlordess. Thus, the reader is privy to all of the planning and strategizing she goes through to try and help her lordess succeed.

Things I loved:

🗡️ The book is inspired by the legendary Chinese classic (part historical, part fictional) Romance of the Three Kingdoms, written by Luo Guanzhong in the 14th century. Strike the Zither brings aspects of Chinese history and literature to the present in an accessible way.

🗡️ There are multiple characters with contrasting personalities, and we get some fascinating looks into their thoughts and motives.
