This is a retelling of the three kingdoms which I really don't know anything about. However I like the author, the genre and the cover so I decided to read it. This book starts off very face paced and I never felt bored. However midway through the book something happens to the main character that sort of felt like two different stories in one. It felt like it added a paranormal aspect, but overall this is a great young adult historical fiction. I kept having moments where I was hoping something queer was happening but it more often than not didn't. I really liked the side characters though especially Cloud and Tourmaline. I'd have liked to know more about Dewdrop and the whole side plot with her sister felt really unfinished? I also really loved the character Crow. This sort of ended on a cliffhanger so I'm eager to read book two and see where this goes.
