I should start this review of Strike the Zither by admitting I a huge fan of Joan He and have loved her work for some times now. I’ve been waiting for Strike the Zither for what feels like too long but it was definitely worth the wait!
This story takes place in 414 of the Xon Dynasty during which the realm is fractured and in chaos. It follows Zypher, a strategist working under Ren, a warlordess, who has captured Zhpher’s loyalty.
First of all, Zypher is such an enigmatic, unusual character in all of the best ways! I fell in love with her personality, which jumps off the page, immediately. After that I was willing to follow this character anywhere as she takes us through an expansive world filled with epic adventure, political intrigue, shocking twists, and heartbreak. Joan He’s writing is incredible and the pacing had me racing through this book!
