I had this book on my TBR (which is quite long) but I decided to read it because I was doing an A to Z challenge and needed Z in the title. I didn't read the synopsis first, I just jumped right in. I now know that it is inspired by a Chinese Classic: Three Kingdoms, which I was not familiar with at the time of reading.
There are 3 warlord eases trying to gain power over everyone, and I believe they are based on 3 men from the original. I love the reimagining with the women, and their relationships with everyone fighting with them.
The book is fast-paced, it gets right into the action and keeps going. Zephyr, the main character is loyal, brave, bold, and smart. She is an orphan who found a family with her warlordess Xin Ren. She will do anything to see Xin Ren rise to power, and she proves that. Her backstory and current situation were a little bit confusing until her past gets explained and everything suddenly makes sense. I had no idea what was coming and it was great. I can't wait to see what happens next!
