I’m neither the target audience for YA fantasy nor do I particularly like it. That being said, this sample drew me in more than expected and I would be tempted to read more. I’m not sure I completely understand where this story is going, but I liked the smooth writing and the illustrations/map at the beginning added to the appeal. If I saw this cover browsing in a bookstore, I would absolutely pick it up to learn more about the book.
