We're immediately pulled into the situation with the strategist MC, who is a little too confident in her abilities, along with her warrior women as they are fleeing an enemy army. The story is fast-paced, and as it progresses we learn the reasons behind the war and why their enemy wants them dead.

This story is told in the first-person point of view in the present tense of the MC Zephyr. The writing style is a little explanatory. At times it felt like she was explaining to us when we could already figure things out as we read. For example, she was commenting on things such as "overkill" after giving us a simile that shows this already, which made her comment unnecessary.

If you enjoy East Asian-inspired dynasty stories that are set in times of war like Mulan, you might enjoy this.

The cover is nice, but I prefer ones without people on them.
