I'm generally not one to read self-help books, but this felt like something else entirely. After reading a couple of chapters, just reading the book itself felt like an act of mindfulness and self care. I loved the format and writing style. It subverted some of my negative expectations and ideas about what a book on mindfulness might contain and helped me to make small changes in my mindset that didn't feel preachy, but instead accessible and truly helpful. The writing style contributed to making the book a surprisingly quick read, instead of the slog I've come to expect from the self-help genre more generally. You don't have to be an expert in meditation to grasp the concepts and the author takes a position of genuine guidance, rather than a 'holier than thou' attitude. I picked this book up for under an hour each time before I went to bed and found it quite enjoyable.
