This is one of those stories that you cannot judge because you never know what you would do in a situation until you find yourself there. Julie is a kind, compassionate woman who fell victim to betrayal in her marriage. Her actions are slow and methodical and you find yourself rooting for her always. But sometimes you want to give her a little shove and tell her “let’s get on with this.”
At times the story drags on and at other times a year passes in one paragraph. I felt as though this area could use some work as well as a good editing process for grammar and punctuation. I also felt unsure, especially given the title of the book, if a betrayal had actually taken place or if Julie was going to end up being crazy in the end? I am a christian, so the occasional references to prayer or scripture did not bother me at all, but rather portrayed a drawing near to God especially in a time of pain and weakness. The wife in me was torn between wanting to smack Julie upside the head and admiring her love and devotion. I felt as though the characters needed to be developed a little more and details were lacking to help you put a full picture of the story together in your mind. Some of the relationships were not believable or developed enough to understand what the author may have been going for. I feel like the ending was definitive, but I’m hopeful for some plot twists in the sequel! This book was provided to me as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
To the author: this was a brave bearing of your soul. I hope you did not suffer near what Julie did in the story. If you suffered only a portion of this, you are a very strong woman indeed. My prayers are with you either way. Thank you for the advanced copy, the bookmark, and tea. What a sweet touch!
