I've spent most of my life living by the "Fat Girl Rules" and after reading Starfish, I felt a connection with Ellie that left me speechless. Ellie spends most of her life being criticized and bullied by the other people in her life; including the people who are supposed to show endless love and support. Ellie's story leaves readers with a small idea of what it feels like to be the fat girl in the room and as I flipped each page, I became more and more aware of how often I witness this in my life as a 20 year old in this world. As an educator, I see this story occur far too often and I hope this causes readers everywhere to realize how easy and important it is to just be KIND to others.
The style of writing, the language, and the emotion used in this story tore at my heart strings from beginning to end. I highly recommended this book and I personally can't wait to read it again and share with my friends and family.
