A book for any and everyone who has ever felt badly when looking in the mirror. The world be cruel for anyone who isn’t exactly like everyone else, but home is supposed to be safe, supportive and loving. For Ellie home is the opposite. It isn’t about unconditional love, but the place where she is bullied every waking moment. For everyone who has ever heard “you’ve got such a pretty face”, “you’d be so much prettier if...”, heard snickers from strangers, cried in the dressing room of a store, been bullied or told they’re just not good enough this book will give you hope. Words matter. They can hurt and wound us to the very core, especially when they come from our closest family members, who are supposed to love us unconditionally. Ellie is an amazing person who we join on her journey to acceptance of who she is and her desire to be the best version of herself for herself and no one else. She is resilient and strong. I wish this book was written when I was the kid who got whispered about.
