Honestly, I think too much of our society is faced on outward appearances and focuses too much on weight problems. It doesn't do much for the self-esteem of younger generations or the current generations. But weight is an amalgam of factors that cannot always be controlled. For that, I love this book, Starfish.
I have struggled for a long while with self-love, especially with comments from my family about losing weight. So, I completely relate with Ellie. Ellie was such a vibrant and alive character. I think not only from my own experiences, but the author's own prose, Ellie really came alive. I was so surprised that this is the author's debut novel, because it was just so well written.
