This was my first book of 2021 and I absolutely couldn't put it down. Starfish was truly a beautifully written story told in verse and conveyed a fantastic and uplifting message about body positivity and embracing your self. Ellie was such an admirable character and I loved hearing her voice and learning to stand up for herself. If you appreciated the novel Dumplin' by Julie Murphy, I would suggest picking up Starfish in March 2021. This will be an essential read to add to elementary/middle school classrooms and libraries. I also would strongly encourage any parent, or educator to read this book. As a society we need to work on embracing body positivity and help youth who are struggling. I will be recommending this book to family, friends, and library patrons. Thank you Bookish First for the advance copy, and I'm truly glad it was my first read of 2021!
