I want to hug the main character
I really enjoyed this first impression. I was surprised it was written as verse, which initially turned me off. But as I kept reading, I found it surprisingly easy and interesting to follow, and didn't notice the different style at all-it was as if I was reading a traditional novel.
I have some commonality with the main character (mainly a love of swimming!), and other experiences which do not line up, but the writing really made me feel for her and I hope that in reading the whole book, I will go on a journey with her. Sixth grade is no picnic, nor are the remaining middle school years, and having your best friend move away as it begins would be tough for anyone.
A wonderful excerpt that I am looking forward to reading in its entirety.
