I like the idea of this book; a protagonist breaking out of social norms is always an interesting story but there is something about this narrative that just feels....condescending?
A fat girl overcoming society standards okay, I like that idea but there is something about the other characters where they seem to either treat her size like she has a terminal disease or they are treating her weight like some sort of courageous thing. Yes, as a larger woman myself I can see some of this hitting home for some people but I found myself rolling my eyes at the really condescending tone of 'you are wonderful...even if you're big' commentary.
