This book grabbed me from the first word! It’s written in a very unique, poetic yet prosaic style that I’ve never encountered before. The style of writing draws the reader in, to be a part of the angst experienced by a young girl who is made aware through the cruelty of her peers, and inadvertent cruelty of her mother and siblings, that she is overweight, and ergo, not a desirable person. Along with clever use of wording, and some creative new words, this is a book that speaks to the heart of the reader and elicits compassion for Starfish, the young girl’s nickname.
