I always like this type of writing, and I'm not sure how to describe it. It's a very first person narrative and a lot of the writing is mainly what the protagonist is thinking. This usually allows for long drawn out rants or some really emotional internal conversations, which all make for good reading, especially for the middle-grade audience this book is targeting. It's still probably not my type of reading, but I liked the bit that I read.
