4.25/5 stars! This is one of those epic science-fiction stories that manages to encapsulate world-building, character development, and an exciting story, all within a few hundred pages. A common issue with this genre is the need to express 600+ pages worth of ideas when approximately 300 would suffice. Star Splitter has no such dilemma, which makes it an all the more enjoyable read. It is a YA story, but this didn't hold it back. Jessica crash-lands on an unknown planet and the story jumps into hyperdrive, with survival, fear, and mystery seamlessly entertaining to keep the reader entertained. There was a great deal of creepiness in this story, which I prefer but might seem almost-horror focussed for some readers. I also appreciated that Jessica was a likable main character. Too often we get shallow, whiny characters that make it hard to root for them.
