This book was more than I expected, in the best way. The premise is intrigue, the plot is interesting, and the ideas the story explores are philosophically and metaphysically rich. I'm impressed that the author managed to layer a fast paced and thrilling story on top of a lot of deep questions about identity and the essence of the individual. I had an equally good time following the protagonist(s)'s story, and pondering the thought experiments that the story naturally sets up.

Without giving too much away, the story is told in a dual timeline structure following the main character who wakes up in the middle of a seeming catastrophe that she doesn't remember, and the mystery is piecing together what happened. A lot of the story is about the technologies that's available in this world, and both the personal and the larger ethical implications thereof. It's a pretty trippy and horrific story, especially if you follow the premise the book puts forth to its natural conclusion, and I did like that the ending for the most part doesn't sidestep that. The story doesn't tie up all the loose ends neatly and I think it misses some of the deeper societal implications of what it introduces, but, for a ~300 page book I thought it explored these ideas in a compact and meaningful way. I was completely along for the ride.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, I thought this was one of the most interesting YA scifis I've read and is definitely worth picking up.
