Y'all hooked me with that 'familiar stranger' twist

How does a book excerpt already have a twist in it? I mean, immediately, end of chapter 2, WHAT?? We just read in chapter 1 that that is a big no no! I haven't read a really good space sci-fi novel in a long time, and this feels like a REALLY good space sci-fi novel! I am so obsessed already, and there's so many questions to be answered. What really happened on that ship? Did it all really go down the way Jess 1 said? What is the real reason why they can't stay in their shelter? Why are there some people that Jess 1 met in the 'Before' chapter that don't have graves? I cannot wait to read this book, it's so intriguing!
