Science fiction novel with a really exciting opening!

It’s been a while since I was interested in a science fiction novel, but I was instantly intrigued by the excerpt of Star Splitter. Right away, I liked the way the concept of teleportation and exploration in deep space were introduced. It kind of felt like a cross between The Martian and Lost in Space! And I liked how eerie the atmosphere of the story got when the mystery was introduced.
