I found the the first 45 pages of "Star Splitter" by Matthew J. Kirby to be well-written and easy to follow (my complaint with so many sci-fi reads, is that they are all over the place with odd characters, and hard to follow). The main character, Jessica Mathers, is a seventeen-year-old, who is being teleported to the planet of Carver 1061c. She is to reunite with her mother and father who she hasn't seen in six years. They are both scientists that, it appears have chosen their careers over raising their daughter. They were originally only supposed to be gone for two years. Jessica is angry and resentful, as she is being forced to leave her grandparents in order to reunite with her mother and father. Jessica sees this as a way for her parents to obtain free research assistance help, and nothing more. As Jessica is teleported a problem arises and Jessica finds herself waking up in a lander that crashed on the surface of Carver 1061c. Carver 1061c is a desolate planet some 14 light years from earth. Jessica finds the lander covered with bloody handprints. As she explores the area surrounding the lander, she discovers the graves of several individuals that are unknown to her. To add to the mystery, Jessica finds another survivor, who is another likeness of herself. Thus starts Jessica's quest to solve the mystery. I'm looking forward to reading the remainder of this interesting YA science fiction novel!
