The technology at the center of the novel is compelling from the start: a machine that allows teleportation via body printing, that separates a person’s consciousness from their body in order to fling them through space. The possibilities and dangers of the technology become clear almost immediately when Jessica, the teen protagonist, wakes up on a new planet to find another version of herself waiting for her.
