Loved the world

The world building is where this book shines. The creatures are interesting, I loved the magic system, and the world itself is cool. The world is so rich there was clearly a lot of thought that went into it, and the glossary at the end was a nice little treat of extra world building. The focus on souls was a bullseye in my current interests and I really enjoyed that aspect.

Unfortunately, I didn’t love characters. I was not a fan of a single character in the book, I found all of them irritating. Characters should have space to grow but I finished the book just wanting to slap the lot of them. I’m also a bit confused about the romance; it seemed like there were hints of it out of nowhere, and just as fast they disappeared. Honestly I wish it had been left out completely.

Though I didn’t love the book, the world for sure will stick with me and honestly I think I’d read the next in the series solely to see what happens to it.
