I want to start with the fact that the map and the drawings of it are fantastic! I can't even imagine what they will look like in print. The first chapter destroyed me. As someone who is very close to my mother, it was heartbreaking for Aina's mother to not only scream and shout at her, but to SLAP HER! She's just a child that didn't even choose this fate and yet her mother turned in a blink of an eye. The writing is descriptive and easy to set eyes on. I do wish their was maybe some sort of pronunciation guide or definitions of words because I've always found it interesting what the words mean and I also always feel bad if I pronounce words wrong in a book, even if it's only in my head. I loved how chapter two introduced a different scene and point of view to that of Aina, making all the characters in the scenes more understandable to me. It made me more curious to see if that happens often in the rest of the book.
