Toranic Law determines all. It determines whether you will be born to the upper realms– a place where food is plenty, life is safe, and people are good–or the lower realms–where life is fraught with danger and scarcity. It is said that if one is morally good there is the possibility of ascension to an upper realm, although that is practically unheard of. Aina is one of those rare individuals that has obtained ascension, something that she does not want, desiring instead to be reunited with her mother. Feeling as though she has no other option Aina joins the Balancers, a group whose goal is to bring aid to those in the lower realms. Ania soon finds herself in the middle of an impending war between those who wish to remain in their positions of power within the upper realms and a lower realm king determined to break Toranic Law and spread violence wherever he can.

While Spin of Fate was an enjoyable novel that hooked me right from the start, it also contains a deeper message, which makes this novel so much more than the narrative. I adored Aina. She is such a strong character with her heart in the right place, and I really took an interest in what her future held for her. The other characters, not to be outdone, are also well developed and interesting. I liked how the story was told; the events are seen through the eyes of the three main characters, giving them all their own voices, and the three timelines come together at various times rather seamlessly. Between the themes, the characters, the action and the mystery, Spin of Fate is a novel that I not only enjoyed, but also made me eager for the next in the series.
