This is a thrilling and original fantasy with such wonderfully vivid world-building that I found myself completely engrossed on page one. Aina is a deeply flawed but loveable character. I appreciate the reversal of tropes when Aina's loyalty to her mother compels her to reject her comfortable life for a dangerous and uncertain future. I can't wait to see what happens next!
