This excerpt was interesting and I feel like the story will be too. In the book’s world, society is separated into two distinct classes. There’s the upper class that seems to imply it is the good group of people and the lower class of sinners. Sometimes someone gets upgraded from the lower realm to the higher one but it’s incredibly rare.In this excerpt, we meet a young character who has just been chosen to move from lower to upper. But her mom must stay behind. I imagine this will be very emotional because even though this feels like a good thing for the lead character she has to go through the sadness of separating from her family. I get the impression that she won’t know anyone where she’s going and probably can’t go back to visit her mom.
