This book is an extremely heavy look at toxic relationships and the dangers that reside in them. Sparrow is a talented ballerina who stumbled her way into a relationship with a popular jock. She quietly buries the struggles she is facing in her relationship, until she can't hid them any longer. This book is told largely through Sparrow's point of view, but about halfway through switches to alternating between Sparrow and her dance partner, and best friend. Her dance partner/best friend is also facing personal struggles in his home life. Basically, this is a story about how hard it is to be a teenager, and a person, and how complicated relationships are. (not Sparrow's relationship- that isn't complicated, its just all bad.)
